Enchanted Moonlight
Two swans swayed up the garden path last night, and gathered round the pond by moonlight. The gentleman, a handsome bird by any creatures’ standard, followed his
lady, charmed. Now she was a graceful creation. Her neck was splendidly long
and curled over her soft, silvery breast feathers. She knew her gentleman
adored her and she shined all the more under his gaze.
Where the succulent
greens and dessert roses opened to the pool, the two swans stepped onto the
water and glided in. They smoothed over the moonlit surface, leaving a rippled
wake behind them that shook the moon into pieces. Tadpoles shimmied from their
algae beds and darted to nip the surface. The frogs at the edge of the pond clicked
in chorus. Darker-than-night bats swooped to sip the water and
then…disappeared. The two swans circled in the pond, dancing slowly in each
other's gaze.
In the dark windows beyond
the garden, the Witch stood and watched it all.
This s just beautiful, Ilonka. Reading your script, I could actually SEE the swans on the water. But what about the witch - I don't like that part - will they be safe and their love growing even stronger?
ReplyDeleteI've only just come across your comments - thank you! Perhaps the witch has something else in mind - something good...
